Going On Now!!

A Study on the Book of Revelation

Have you ever read the book of Revelation and wondered what it means? How can anyone interpret this book responsibly? Well, if you've ever asked these questions, you're in good company. Many scholars over the centuries have, and are, still grappling with these issues now. This Bible Class will help clarify the meaning of Revelation and how to read and apply it for today.

Classes will be live at First Presbyterian Church in the Gathering Room for those who can attend in person but will also be presented via a Zoom meeting for those who cannot.  Classes will start at 11:15 each Sunday starting on November 08.

To begin our exciting study of John's masterpiece, Revelation, we will spend the first two weeks covering key introductory issues which include historical background and writing styles. We will also consider the rich abundance of Old Testament connections as well as major themes in this intriguing New Testament book. The class will then explore one chapter per week, yet remain flexible for questions that inevitably arise in any passionate study of this captivating biblical text.

For most of us, a solid understanding of Revelation poses a far greater challenge than any other New Testament book. Yet the rewards for the effort will be almost beyond description! Indeed, this priceless treasure, with its kaleidoscopic visions, graphic symbols, and inspiring promises played out on a cosmic scale, speaks to us today in a way that no other text can!

This incredible study will be led by Dr. Chris Smith of Northern California.  After a miraculous conversion to Christ at the age of 18, the Lord Jesus Christ instantaneously transformed Chris Smith’s life from drug addiction to an insatiable hunger for God’s Word.

Dr. Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Theology from Gordon College and a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Then, zeal for the Lord and His word led him to graduate with a Doctorate in New Testament Studies in Sheffield, England. His doctoral dissertation is entitled, Suffering and Glory. He has taught at John Brown University, Fuller Theological Seminary, and many other educational institutions. He led the New Testament and Biblical Language Programs while serving as professor at Bethany University in Scotts Valley, California. At a Society of Biblical Literature Conference, Dr. Smith presented “Fresh Light on a Crux Interpretum: Colossians 1:24.”

Over his years of ministry to the Lord, Dr. Smith has greatly enjoyed the opportunity to serve via church preaching, Bible Study teaching, and individual mentoring. He holds profound gratitude for his pastors, mentors, and colleagues, including Jonathan Evans, Gordon Fee, Morna D. Hooker, Andrew T. Lincoln, John Goldengay, and many others.

Dr. Smith currently lives in Northern California with his wife, Stephanie, and spends priceless time with his daughter, Rachel, son, Glen, and grand-daughter, Ellie.

"God's Thirsty Crew" or "The GTC's", will be getting together, still social distancing, on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am

in Fellowship Hall.  This is a discussion group that coincides with the current

Sunday study on Revelation.

It's a place to come together and discuss questions we have and/or talk about the things that affected us in the last class.

This will be an In-Person group. We will try and get ZOOM going for those of you at home who would like to join as well. Bear with us!

The Revelation study promises to be a thought-provoking,

exciting study and this is a way to grow further in our learning of His word while spending more community time together with God.
